Growing the people who will carry conservation forward
For many young people in rural communities, talent and ambition do not always translate into opportunity. Girls and young women may face social, economic and cultural barriers that affect school participation, career choices and access to role models.
Without exposure, encouragement and sustained support, it can be difficult to imagine pathways into conservation, leadership and professional life.
CHD’s Mentorship programme responds by helping young people, particularly girls and young women, build confidence, skills and a stronger sense of possibility. The programme creates access to mentors, role models and learning opportunities that can help participants make informed choices about education, leadership and their future.
The work reflects one of the ideas on which CHD was founded: lasting change begins when people are supported to see a different future and believe they can take part in shaping it.
What we Do
CHD connects young people with mentors and role models, builds confidence, leadership and life skills, exposes participants to conservation careers and opportunities, supports girls and young women to remain engaged in education, and creates spaces for conversation, learning and personal development.
The programme helps nurture future leaders with the confidence, knowledge and sense of responsibility to advocate for their communities and become stewards of the landscapes they inherit.

Conservation Education
Turning conservation knowledge into everyday action
People are more likely to protect wildlife and landscapes when they understand why they matter and how environmental change affects their own lives.
Yet conservation information can often feel technical, distant or disconnected from the realities communities face. For young people in particular, meaningful exposure to conservation can shape attitudes, choices and behaviors long after a lesson ends.
CHD’s Conservation Education programme responds by helping children, young people and communities understand the relationship between wildlife, healthy ecosystems and human wellbeing through practical, locally relevant learning.
The programme brings conservation closer to everyday life, helping participants see that protecting nature is not something that happens only inside a protected area. It is something that begins in the places where people live, learn and make daily choices.
What we Do
CHD works with schools, young people and communities to deliver practical conservation education, build understanding of local wildlife and ecosystems, connect environmental issues to everyday livelihoods, introduce young people to conservation careers, facilitate field-based learning, and encourage participants to take conservation action in their schools and communities.
The programme helps turn knowledge into action by giving young people a clearer understanding of the ecological and economic value of wildlife, water, trees and healthy habitats, and the role they can play in protecting them.

Oldonyo Musa Eco Camp
Stay in Amboseli. Experience conservation from the inside.
Many visitors experience Amboseli primarily through game drives and lodges, while young people living around the ecosystem may have limited opportunities to engage deeply with conservation.
Oldonyo Musa Eco Camp responds to both realities by creating a place where people can stay, learn, explore and connect with the landscape more meaningfully.
Set within one of Kenya’s most iconic ecosystems, the camp offers young people, families, groups and travelers’ a more immersive way to experience Amboseli through simple nature-based accommodation, wildlife encounters, conservation learning, community experiences and time outdoors.
For students and young people, the camp creates practical opportunities to learn about wildlife, ecosystems and conservation careers. For visitors, it offers a deeper way to experience Amboseli while connecting with the people, stories and conservation work shaping the landscape.
What we Do
Oldonyo Musa Eco Camp offers simple nature-based accommodation, guided experiences across the Amboseli landscape, wildlife and birdwatching, conservation talks, field learning, community and cultural experiences, photography and storytelling activities, and practical conservation experiences such as tree planting and nursery visits.
The camp also hosts educational programmes for schools and youth groups, while offering tailored experiences for families, researchers, volunteers and conservation-minded travelers.
By turning conservation into something people can experience directly, the camp helps young people build knowledge, curiosity and environmental stewardship, while giving visitors a deeper understanding of Amboseli and the realities of conserving a landscape shared by people and wildlife. It also creates a pathway for conservation tourism to support CHD’s community and environmental work.
